Graduate of the United States Military Academy in 1935. Lieutenant-Colonel during the war. Commanded the 3rd Armored Field Artillery Battalion (AFA Bn) of the 9th Armored Division. Rose to the rank of Major General. His last post was Deputy Commanding General, Fourth United States Army and, concurrently, Commanding General, Fort Sam Houston, Texas. He was also the Historian for the 9th Armored Division Veterans Association.

His unit – 3rd AFA Bn – was among the follow up forces moving through the sector south of Bastogne end of December 1944, early January 1945. Previously, they were in Luxembourg and were one of the first units hit by the Ardennes Offensive.
