Friedel, Erwin – 5. Fallschirmjäger Division

Born on June 4, 1926 in Passau, Niederbayern, Germany.

Missing in action on December 24, 1944.

Friedel was with 2. Kompanie, Fallschirm-Pionier-Battaillon 5 of the 5. Fallschirmjäger Division. This unit was south of the Lambaichenet Woods near Chaumont. On December 24, 1944, it pulled back towards the Honville area when Gefreiter  (Corporal) Erwin Friedel was hit by an artillery shell almost cutting off his forearm. A Medic had to amputate the forearm. Friedel was then evacuated but never reached the aid station and to this day is still missing.
